COMPANY

The company Apemaglia is born on March 29th, 2004 from the passion for the bees with just 8 beehives, acquired from a beekeeper with organic production. Today the production comes from more than 250 beehives – all organic, practising nomadic beekeeping.

The nomadism is particularly intensive and turned to unifloral and fine flowerings.

Right from the beginning of its birth the company has been recognized fit to the organic production as all the material used reflected the regulations imposed.

The beehives are on the hills just outside the medieval Lucca, about 300 meters above the sea level. The family management produces outstanding unifloral honey of: acacia, chestnut, honeydew, linden, wildflower. Besides, it produces excellent fresh royal jelly and high quality pollen with about 30 selected hives.

The production starts on May with acacia flowering. After the choice of the best productive families and of the place with a good flowering, the honeycombs for the honey harvest will be put on the beehives.

Subsequently, the bees start to pursue the best flowering, from a low to an high altitude. Thus the company manages to produce a better quality of honey.

All this happens again for all the several types of honey produced by the company, until the end of the flowering, about on August.

When each single flowering finishes, the honeycombs are picked (they are closed by the bees with their wax) and afterwards, they are taken to the workshop. Here, they are opened and finally spinned around.

So, it is possible to extract the honey, that partially leaked, it is put to purify, into steel containers for food. In this way, the honeycombs are not damaged and they are ready to be reused.

After about 20 days, the honey is ready to be put into jars.

From August onwards, it is very important to keep the bees in the best way, so, the following year, the beekeeper will be rewarded and gratified for the work of them.
